Hello, and welcome to Women of Steel – a newsletter covering Sheffield United Women.

I hope to bring you a mix of articles throughout the season and, with my newly-acquired season ticket holder status, you can expect reports / reviews of the side’s home matches and as many aways as I can get my eyes on (some, not all, are streamed free via the FA’s website).

I’ll also have an eye on the wider picture of the Women’s Championship as the season progresses, and hopefully keep tabs on how some of our former players are progressing at their new clubs – particularly those like Mia Enderby and Lucy Watson who’ve moved up the ladder and onto WSL clubs.

A bit about me, for anyone interested: I co-host BladesPod, a podcast largely focussed on United’s men’s team. I also write a bit for the excellent Pinch newsletter (and write professionally as a copywriter for hire), but this is my first real dip into covering United’s women’s team beyond a few yammering thoughts on the podcast.

I’m keeping the newsletter totally free for now while I get the ball rolling. I might look into something later where you can chuck me the price of a cup of coffee if you’re feeling super-generous, but I’m setting up Women of Steel more for my own enjoyment than as a money-making venture.

I also want to put a disclaimer out there: I’m still relatively new to women’s football. I’ve followed the international game closely for a good few years, but only through the prism of England games. After last summer’s Euros, I moved from having a casual interest in WSL to being an avid watcher (it’s amazing what an international tournament can do in terms of boosting your awareness of the top players, rising stars and big personalities of a sport).

Why do I feel the need to list my women’s football-watching credentials? Because I’m not intending to be an authoritative, expert voice on the women’s game. I’m a fan who wants to bring a little more coverage to SUFC Women, and hopefully be part of a fun journey as the club transitions to a full-time model.

And I hope this newsletter brings you along for the ride. Thanks for subscribing.
